The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) has been established in the Women University Swabi (WUS), Swabi as per guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad to build an environment for innovative research in WUS.

The vision of ORIC is to serve as a catalyst to promote and strengthen research environment in WUS and to link the industry with university which would encourage and accelerate the process of creation and diffusion of knowledge keeping in view the local context.

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) has a role to develop, embed, expand and integrate WUS research programs and to link research activities directly to the educational, social and economic priorities of the university and its broader community. It also aims to develop contacts with the corporate sector/market/industry to ensure compatibility between research and requirements in order to increase its utility to the optimum. Therefore, this office facilitates, promotes, monitors, publishes and sells research conducted with the view to maximize both production and utility of research studies attempted in this regard.

The ORIC is also responsible for assuring that the quality of research reflects the highest international standards and advances the stature of the Women University Swabi among the best research institutions. In pursuit of this mission the ORIC provides end to end services for all matters pertaining research & development, innovation, inventions, commercialization, patents, collaborations, arranging seminars/ symposium/ conferences/ workshops, etc and/or research publication honorarium. By and large Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) is the focal point for all research related activities of the Women University Swabi. ORIC facilitates the University researchers (faculty members and scholars) to promote their research work both nationally and internationally.

In short, the ORIC seeks to enhance the environment for all research and scholarship by:

  • Supporting the university's strategic research directions and policies.
  • Increasing and diversifying external research funding.
  • Improving recruitment and retention of top faculty.
  • Improving integration of research and education at all levels of the university.
  • Improving translation of research into the public benefit.
  • Building and strengthening university and industry partnership.
  • Capitalizing outcomes of R&D activities.
  • Promoting entrepreneurship, technology-transfer and commercialization activities that energize and support the local and national economy.
  • Promoting and enhancing cross-cutting and multi-disciplinary research initiatives.

Aims & Objectives

  • To manage and support all academic and sponsored research & development related activities of academic and research units.
  • To develop infrastructure, research programs and policies which are in line with the educational, social & economic priorities of the university and other stakeholders.
  • To coordinate and record all present & future R&D activities/programs, which will help to monitor progress & achieve excellence.
  • To provide guidance to researchers to promote multidisciplinary research initiatives in emerging technologies that will increase funding from all public & private sectors like HEC, PSF, COMSTECH, TWAS, USAID etc.
  • To bring funding opportunities from national/international donors/sponsors to the attention of faculties.
  • To develop appropriate mechanism and activities for the collaboration with universities (national/international) and other stakeholders.
  • To design, develop and deploy practicable and replicable models for sustainable economic and social development of the society.
  • To provide tailored career counseling and placement services against one's needs, goals, choices and future plans based on one's hidden abilities, skill and talents.
  • To facilitate flow of knowledge through arranging conferences, symposium, and training programs.
  • To promote the development of public-private partnership in support of commercialization of university research.
  • To guide researchers on "patent" filing of research work and also on the protection of their intellectual property rights.
  • To provide quality mentorship and conducive environment to writers and scholars for research-based writing.
  • To deal with plagiarism cases and to advance an anti-plagiarism culture via powerful software for detecting plagiarism i.e. turnitin.
